Why You Shouldn’t Hire An Ad Agency

If you start paid ads with me today: your gym will be full by next week; you’ll always crush your workouts; and your family will never fight! And if you believe that, I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you 🤪

Unfortunately, that’s what a lot of marketing agencies promise when they take on your business. So don’t hire a marketing agency if you’re expecting miracles. There are factors outside yours, an agency’s, or anyone’s control that impact the effectiveness of your ads:

  1. The Algorithm. PhDs in mathematics and computer science get hired from the likes of Stanford and Oxford and go to work on how social media works. No one person can perfectly understand how the algorithm will read and interpret your ads and who they’ll show them to. What you can do is have consistent quality messaging that speaks clearly and directly to your chosen market.
  2. The audience. If you live in a very low population area, you’ve less people to show to. If you live in a high density area, you’ve more competition and people have more choice. Also, some markets have been burned by bait-n-switch offers so are more resistant to any style of ad.
  3. Other advertisers: more competition means more noise your message has to cut through.

Some agencies (not all) will also require you to spend massive amounts on your ads, and I’m not a fan of giving Zuck any more than is absolutely necessary.

Now that I’ve told you all the reasons why shouldn’t hire an agency, what are the reasons you should hire an agency like me?

I spend virtually all day every day managing Meta and Google ads, so I can you save you time in figuring out the dashboard and technical set up, and the cost in experimentation. (I’m also a massive fan of spending the least amount on these platforms to get the most cost effective results.) In addition, when something goes wrong with your ad, you alone won’t know if it’s a one off issue or something systemic. Because I have access to so many ads I will be able to fix any issues quickly. Finally, I don’t constantly tear down your ads each month and relaunch them just to justify my fees, I’ll update your ads as appropriate to keep your performance optimised.

I’ve over 8 years of experiencing in paid ads at this stage, and I’d put my longevity down to being very honest about the pros and the cons (aren’t all marketers meant to just give the upside? 🤪) I own a gym myself and I use the same strategies for my marketing clients as I do my own facility.
